4B2-6 This series of special stains is designated Periodic acid-Schiff (PAS), Orange G (OG), Hematoxylin (H) and Alcian Blue (AB). Thyrotrophs, gonadotrophs, and corticotrophs stain blue/purple with AB/PAS due to glycoprotein content. Orange G stains protein-rich cytoplasm yellow/orange, highlighting acidophils (somatotrophs and lactotrophs giving rise to growth hormone and prolactin). Chromophobes stain pale or not at all.
