3A0 Case 3 History
Case 3 History ---- The patient was a 32 year old woman who carried a diagnosis of acute non-lymphocytic leukemia and was last admitted to Barnes in late October 1979 for evaluation of mild liver function test elevation and bilateral pleural effusions. While in the hospital she suffered a respiratory arrest following which she was found to have pneumocystis carinii pneumonia. Despite appropriate therapy she continued to deteriorate experiencing a number of hypotensive episodes and finally, died after a cardiopulmonary arrest. Pertinent past medical history included a skin biopsy proven “graft verses host" reaction in July of 1979 treated with a short course of high dose prednisone. That same month she had an episode of (right) L2-L4 herpes zoster.
