There is variable but consistent fibrosis from fascicle to fascicle recognized by increased areas of pink cytoplasm. (Trichrome) ---- Not shown: Immunohistochemically stained sections show essentially no reactivity for neurofilament or epithelial membrane antigen, highlighting the obliteration of axons and perineurium, respectively.
