Thrombosis and recanalization of vessels is seen in SMA stained sections indicative of prior vasculitis, thrombosis. The SMA stain highlights invasion of the vessel walls by occasional lymphocytes, focal disruption of the elastic lamina by collagen, and focal vascular recanalization.
