The residual vessel shows scars within the original vascular media which are rearranged around recanalized vessels. (Trichrome) ---- Not shown: VVG confirmed the differential fascicular loss with 1 or 2 fascicles being almost devoid of myelinated axons where as others have a reduced, but clearly present, number. VVG highlights the interruption of the plastic lamina of the walls of the large occluded vessel. Acid phosphatase highlighted cellularity around the outside of the vessel wall.
