Amyloid is diffusely distributed within the endoneurium. (Plastic sections) ---- Not shown: Thioflavin S stained sections confirm the presence of extensive amyloid deposition corresponding to the eosinophilic material seen on H&E sections. Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS) detected AL (kappa)-type amyloid deposition within the peripheral nerve. Congo red showed prominent patchy deposits of amyloid all through the endoneurium, in some areas of epineurium, and in some epineurial and subperineurial vessel walls.
