Case 24 History ---- This patient was a 43-year-old woman with a history of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, diabetic ketoacidosis, bilateral diabetic foot ulcers, PCOS, endometriosis, asthma, gastroparesis, GERD, anemia, anxiety, depression, and psoriasis. She presented to the emergency room on August 10th for evaluation of a worsening wound of the left foot. Two weeks prior to this presentation, she noticed that her left foot looked inflamed and was draining fluid. She was seen at an OSH on July 27th. There was concern for an infected diabetic wound and she was started on antibiotics as an outpatient. Since then, her symptoms worsened. She also endorsed chills, fever, nausea, and vomiting for the last two weeks. After a brief coughing episode in the emergency department, she became unresponsive, diaphoretic, apneic, and pulseless. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed but efforts were terminated and the decision was made to transition to comfort care. She died on August 10th.
