26K2A-D Several magnifications of a few of the stellate cells separated by collagen fibers seen in cross section. The cell bodies and processes typically lack a consistent continuous basal lamina, although in some areas there appears to be basal lamina free in the endoneurium. Processes are not rich in micropinocytotic vessels and, instead have various amounts of rough endoplasmic reticulum and other subcellular populations which are not definitive for a single cell type but likely many are fibroblasts. Some processes show focal tight junction like structures (arrows, 26C2C), suggesting a possible perineurial cell origin but, again, they are not accompanied by a continuous basal lamina expected in typical perineurial cells.
