26N0 Case 1 Denouement
26N0 Case 26 Denouement ---- This segment of nerve appears most consistent with the end stage of a nerve following axon loss upstream and failure of regeneration. This may reflect the known time limit for axon regeneration after reanastomosis. So what are the endoneurial cells that remain? I think most are likely fibroblasts. I am not sure if there are any normal perineurial or Schwann cells within the original nerve fascicles and this may be the common appearance of chronically denervated nerve. Possibly some endoneurial cells may be reprogrammed.
