Washington University Experience | PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY | 20 PSEUDO-ONION BULBS | 8C1A (Case 8) Nerve_010 - Copy
8C1A-E One large Schwannian aggregate is shown. A central structure is a large collection of collagen and Schwann cells with prominent basal laminae. The central process in this nerve is axon loss with numerous bands of Büngner and a very large "pseudo-onion bulb', representing a reaction to axonal degeneration and loss. There are no demyelinated axons, true onion-bulbs, macrophage-mediated demyelination, endoneurial macrophages with myelin debris, or ongoing axonal degeneration in our material. There are no regenerative axonal clusters. Unmyelinated axon loss is confirmed by large numbers of collagen pockets. (electron micrographs)
