Case 4 History ---- The patient is a 32-year-old female who suddenly developed bilateral lower extremity pain, weakness, swelling, burning, while traveling in Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. Operative procedure: Left sural nerve biopsy and left thigh muscle biopsy. Although vasculitis was suspected no evidence for that etiology was found in the biopsied specimen. ---- 4A1,2 Fulminant loss of axons with debris contained within Schwann cells and some macrophages was identified.
