Loss of unmyelinated axons may be hard to appreciate in small numbers. One common finding is the presence of individual unmyelinated axons in each Schwann cell unit, so called “singletons” rather than in Remak bundles. Well innervated Remak bundles are not typical in chronic neuropathy.
