4D1 Case 15 EM 1 - Copy copy
4D1,2 This macrophage is derived from a surgically resected specimen of nerve trauma several weeks after injury. Axonal regeneration has progressed as evidenced by numerous reinnervated Schwann cells. A macrophage (arrowhead) is intimately associated with a Schwann cell whose myelin debris has been removed and contains numerous regenerating axons. Although that macrophage contains metabolized debris presumably originally part of the adjacent compressed Schwann cell it has targeted a second Schwann cell containing additional debris (arrow).
