Washington University Experience | PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY | 5 AXONAL REGENERATION | 11A1 Axon Degen & NAD (Case 18) EM 091 copy - Copy
For years I have encountered small numbers of axonal dystrophy in numerous types of neuropathies. They are a significant diagnostic feature in some conditions such as infantile neuroaxonal dystrophy (Seitelberger disease) and vitamin E deficiency. Dystrophic changes are significantly more numerous in small non-myelinated axons. ----
11A1-3 This nerve exhibited axon loss, regenerative clusters and typical neuroaxonal dystrophy involving scattered axons. The cleft is common in dystrophic axons as are the tubulovesicular elements. (electron micrographs)
