3A1 Dmyel, remyel & AD (Case 3) Plastic 6
Case 3 History ---- The patient was a 70-year-old female with a history of breast cancer, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, hypothyroidism, COPD/asthma, and resting tremor who presented with ascending weakness, sensory changes, and new onset shortness of breath with subacute sensorimotor mixed axonal and demyelinating polyneuropathy without length dependency, concerning for Guillain-Barre syndrome versus an immune neuropathy. Operative procedure: Right sural nerve biopsy. ---- 3A1 This plastic section shows a loss of myelinated axons and very few axons suspicious for demyelination. (Toluidine blue stained one micron thick plastic section)
