Washington University Experience | PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY | 6 AXONAL DEMYELINATION (BASIC PROCESS) | 4A1 Demyelination wo remyelination (Case 4) Plastic 2.jpg
Case 4 History ---- The patient is a 59-year-old male with history of numbness in the feet, a burning sensation and feeling “as if he was walking on blisters” for approximately one year. He also developed weakness in bilateral lower extremities. EMG shows evidence of primary demyelinating polyneuropathy. Operative procedure: Sural nerve biopsy. The precise causation of neuropathy in this patient was thought to be immune in nature by ancillary studies. ---- 4A1 This low magnification image shows axon loss and possible axons lacking myelin.
