2A0 Case 2 History
Case 2 History ---- The patient was a 69 year old man who was referred to Barnes Hospital for a right sural nerve biopsy. The patient was first seen by a neurologist on July12, complaining of numbness in his legs (R>L) for the past several months. The patient has no bladder nor bowel dysfunction. The patient had a MRI scan done on July 21 which showed degenerative vertebral body changes without evidence of significant stenosis in either the lumbar or thoracic regions. He had an EMG and nerve conduction study done on August 15 which showed evidence of a polyneuropathy involving his lower extremities. Sed rate measured as an outpatient was 25. B12 was within normal limits. A collagen vascular screen was negative. Clinical diagnosis: Rule out peripheral neuropathy. Operative procedure: Sural nerve biopsy.
