One micron-thick, toluidine blue stained sections of the plastic embedded biopsy material show moderate loss of large and small myelinated axons with significant intra- and inter-fascicular variability. Most of the remaining large axons show thin myelination for axon caliber, consistent with a cycle of axonal degeneration and regeneration. (Plastic sections)
