Case 11 History ---- The patient was a 72-year-old woman with a clinical history of rapidly progressive dementia, consistent with CJD diagnosed in December of 2013. Her cerebrospinal fluid 14- 3-3 and Tau levels were also supportive of that diagnosis. ---- At autopsy the weight of the unfixed brain was 1370g. The sulcal/gyral pattern showed mild atrophy of the cerebral hemispheres. The cerebellar hemispheres and brainstem were full and equal in size. Notice the unusual homogenization of intravascular red cells resulting from the use of 100% formic acid pretreatment.
