At autopsy the weight of the unfixed brain was 1050g. The cerebral hemispheres showed cortical atrophy most pronounced in the frontal lobes. The cerebellar hemispheres appeared full and symmetrical. On sectioning the caudate appeared atrophic. ---- 2B1-3 The caudate and putamen are severely affected by spongiform changes, neuron loss and astrocytosis. The Wilson fibers are well preserved, aiding in orientation.
