4A1-3 At autopsy, the fresh brain weighed 1,040g. External examination showed mild to moderate generalized cerebral atrophy with relative sparing of the sensory-motor cortex. Coronal slicing revealed severe dilatation of the lateral ventricles with rounding of the angles. The hippocampi appeared small and the inferior horns of the lateral ventricles were also enlarged. There was thinning of the cortical ribbon. The brainstem and cerebellum were of normal size and proportion with normal substantia nigra and locus ceruleus.
