4B1-3 The caudate nucleus, putamen, and globus pallidus showed severe loss of neurons, spongiform change, and gliosis which also was demonstrated in the insular cortex and basal forebrain. An isolated neurofibrillary tangle is seen in the nucleus basalis of Meynert with no diffuse or neuritic beta-amyloid deposits in the striatum, nucleus basalis of Meynert, or pallidum. No Lewy bodies were identified.
