20D1,2 A Verhoeff-Van Giesen (VVG) stain shows that many of the large ectatic vascular structures have flattened and irregular internal elastic lamina. In many areas the elastic lamina has lost its usual undulating and corrugated appearance. Splitting of the internal elastic lamina is present and in many areas multiple layers of darkly-staining elastin fibers can be seen. Onyx embolic material is seen in many vessels. (VVG)
