34B1,2 H&E-stained sections show fragments of edematous brain parenchyma (cerebral cortex and white matter) with numerous malformed blood vessels consisting of arteries, arterioles, veins and venules which are mostly thick walled with varied calibers and are present in small clusters. Hybrid vessels are numerous in this case typically identified by their size, thickness of vascular wall, smooth muscle content and presence of elastic lamina. Scattered foci of hemosiderin laden macrophages are also present. (H&E)
