36B The specimen consists of a markedly disrupted brain with softening which is reported to weigh 1730 grams unfixed with some contribution from recent surgery and hemorrhage. The midbrain and brainstem are markedly softened and disrupted resulting from uncal herniation. Coronal sections of the cerebral hemispheres demonstrate extensive disruption and fragmentation of the left cerebral hemisphere and residual clot. There was no evidence of venous sinus thrombosis. ---- 36B1,2 A fragment of the left hemisphere adjacent to the principal parietal clot demonstrating unusual parenchymal vasculature suspicious for a vascular malformation but admittedly not the classical gross appearance of an AVM.
