Comment ---- It is clear that this is a vascular malformation; however, it is not typical of the other AVMs shown in this section of the atlas. Nonetheless, this is a 20 year old patient with no history of trauma, use of illicit drugs, coagulopathy, source of septic emboli or aneurysm. The diagnosis favored at the gross conference was a vascular malformation but no discrete lesion was demonstrated with multiple sections and careful dissection. It is possible that the hemorrhage obscured the underlying vascular malformation or that the more typical malformation was surgically removed with the clot.
