Case 21 History ---- The decedent was a 58 year old man with a history of epilepsy, brain aneurysm (no additional detail could be elicited as to which vessels were involved, when neurosurgery was performed and what hospital, etc.), diabetes and hepatitis C. He had been recently hospitalized at an OSH and, according to his wife, had severe heart damage with arterial blockages and "brain damage from the heart problem." Before coming to the Barnes-Jewish hospital ED he was poorly responsive and then unresponsive. On EMS arrival, he was unresponsive with HR in 30s and his blood pressure was unmeasurable. Blood glucose was very low and he was treated with glucose. In the ED, CPR was initiated and he received multiple doses of epinephrine given through an IO line but remained pulseless for approximately 15-18 minutes. The family asked compressions to be stopped.
