Case 15 History ---- The patient was a 79 year old man with a 40-50 pack year history of cigarette smoking who had stopped 20 years prior, hypertension, coronary heart disease and glucose intolerance. He developed a gradual decline in memory and activities of daily living and received a diagnosis of Alzheimer disease and died of inanition. ---- At autopsy his unfixed brain weighed 1350g. He received a diagnosis of Alzheimer disease (A3B3C3, NIA-AA scheme, high likelihood of AD explaining his dementia) and severe atherosclerosis. ---- 15A1 In this CT scan the dilated basilar artery shows focal calcifications (arrow)
