Case 15 History ---- The family history of this 70-year-old man was significant for dementia (autopsy confirmed AD in 6 close relatives with ages of onset in their early 60’s or 70’s). He expired one year later in 8/2014 from cardiac arrest while being treated for Klebsiella bacteremia with IV antibiotics at home. Cardiac valve replacement had been postponed due to the bacteremia and other medical issues, including E. coli septicemia, over the course of the previous six months. His cognition remained unchanged except for acute confusion during a period of high fever. The night before he died, he instructed a family member on how to change the pool filter. He managed his own medications throughout his illness. ---- Alzheimer disease neuropathologic change was low (A3B1C0 by NIA-AA scheme) at autopsy and was accompanied by modest CAA, arteriolosclerosis and moderate atherosclerosis.
