Washington University Experience | VASCULAR | Hemangioma | 1A1 Hemangioma, Capillary (Case 1) 1
Case 1 History ---- The patient is a ten-month-old boy born at 27 weeks gestation with a history of intraventricular hemorrhage. He next developed an enlarging extradural subcutaneous mass involving the lumbar spine. ---- This discrete mass consists of a solid portion with surrounding lipoma. The tumor is partially enveloped by lobulated, mature adipose tissue, which also contains larger-caliber "feeder" vessels for the hemangioma. Infrequent diffuse clusters of mature adipocytes are also present within the parenchyma of the hemangioma, consistent with a mildly infiltrative growth pattern. The final diagnosis is a capillary hemangioma arising within pre-existing lipoma. (H&E)
