Washington University Experience | VASCULAR | Hemorrrhage - Subdural | 2A0 Case 2 History
Case 2 History ---- The patient was a 53 year old man with diabetes and end-stage renal disease who presented with a one month history of left sided headaches. Head CT and MRI showed a left temporal lobe subdural collection. Operative procedure: Left-sided craniotomy for hematoma evacuation. ---- H&E stained sections of the "subdural collection" showed multiple fragments of an organized blood clot composed predominantly of granulation tissue with patchy hemosiderin deposition and occasional microcalcifications. Fresh blood was present, but comprised a minority of the specimen. The overall characteristics are those of an organizing blood clot.
