Cases 13A-E In this group I have placed cases which do not show compelling tonsillar herniation. These cases lack a relevant clinical history and lack of associated findings including gross or microscopic hemorrhages in the cerebellum or medulla. Thus, there is no compelling reason to believe the gross pathology is pathologic tonsillar herniation, rather I think the appearance represents collapse of the soft postmortem brain into the foramen magnum.
