Although this coronal section appears unimpressive other than the collapse of the left lateral ventricle, hypoxic/ischemic damage ranging from selective neuronal necrosis to recent infarction, involved the left cerebral hemispheric neocortices and bilateral basal ganglia and thalamus with diffuse cerebral edema. A thromboembolus was found at the junction of the left internal carotid and origin of middle and anterior cerebral arteries. Notice the uncal hemorrhages (arrowhead).
