Case 8 ---- The patient was a 49 year old man. Coronal sections of the brain show evidence of hypoxic ischemic damage. There is widespread laminar necrosis in the cerebral cortex consisting of increased eosinophilia and collapse of the neuropil, loss of neurons, and marked endothelial activation. ---- 8A1-3 Laminar discoloration in the deep cortical layers in the absence of grossly granular tissue loss and collapse.
