6B7,8 At the margin of the cerebellar infarct was an intravascular embolus with foreign body reaction to a granular, non-birefringent material, assuredly from one of the surgical procedures or from the LVAD. It is not clear that the majority of the infarcts consist of similar materials; however, underlying congenital heart disease or associated multiple treatment procedures likely establishes the source.
