5A1-3 A cross section of the medulla is stained routinely for H&E (5A1), myelin (5A2, LFB-PAS) and axons (5A3, Bielschowsky). The location of the infarct precisely in the right pyramid has produced a nearly pure motor stroke and picked off the right hypoglossal nerve as it courses around the pyramid and inferior olivary nucleus.
