Case 8 History ---- The patient was a 57 year old man who was brought to the Emergency Department via EMS. According to the history given by patient's sister, the patient complained of a burning sensation in the epigastrium on 4/5/02 at about 11:00 pm. He was given 2 tablets of "Aleve" and subsequently had a bout of vomiting and later collapsed. On arrival, EMS found no pulse or spontaneous respirations. ECG showed flat line and pupils were dilated and fixed. The patient was brought to the ER in this state and after attempted CPR, he was declared deceased. ---- The major findings at postmortem examination included severe coronary artery disease with the major coronary arteries showed atherosclerotic changes with luminal occlusion ranging from 50-75%. Examination of the myocardium showed multiple foci of myocardial infarction of variable ages. He also had evidence of severe hypertension including a 560 gram heart with left ventricular wall thickness of 2.3 cm.
