This coronal section shows both infarcts. The remote infarct is characterized by cystic loss of tissue involving the left fronto-parietal and superior temporal lobes (arrow) with marked expansion of the left lateral ventricle (hydrocephalus ex vacuo). The subacute 11 day old infarct is shown involving the right parietal cortex and white matter (arrowhead).
