Case 18 ---- The patient was a 66 year old woman with a history of severe mitral regurgitation, congestive heart failure, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, colon cancer s/p resection in 2001, and coronary artery disease. She underwent two vessel CABG and mitral valve repair surgery in June 2012. After an initial window of uneventful recovery she developed renal and respiratory failure and required tracheostomy on 6/20. A head CT performed on 6/22 in response to the patient's altered mental status, showed subacute infarction in the left occipital lobe. Bradycardia was followed by asystole and she died on July 26th, approximately one week after her terminal decompensation. ---- 18A1The external surface shows a discolored focus (arrow) involving the left occipital lobe.
