Case 19 History ---- The patient was a 62 year old chronically hypertensive woman who was admitted on 11/20 to BH with a sudden onset of left hemiparesis with neglect and flattened affect. She had experienced episodes of dizziness, nausea, and vomiting, retrospectively likely TIA's. The patient did well after admission with only minor improvement until on 11/26 she developed ischemic cholecystitis which was treated surgically. On 12/3 she developed a fever with wound fasciitis and sepsis. Over the next two weeks she developed increasing creatinine and increasingly abnormal liver function tests. She could not maintain respiratory function and died on 12/20, the 30th hospital day.
