Washington University Experience | VASCULAR | Infarct - Subacute | 8A Infarct-Hypoxia Ischemia, subacute (Case 8) gross copy
Case 8 History ---- The patient was a 49-year-old man who was found unconscious and pulseless (for an unknown period of time) on 12/29. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was started in the field and there was return of spontaneous circulation, although complicated by systemic hypotension to the 60s/30s. His urine test was positive for cocaine and opioids. He died on 1/7, ten days after the cardiac event. ---- 8A The gross appearance of the brain (weight 1440g) was surprisingly unimpressive, although significant fixation artifact leading to pink discoloration of the left cerebral hemisphere complicated the interpretation of subtle changes. A focus of hemorrhage in the left hippocampus is visible (arrow).
