1B5A-D This is a whole mount section of the right thalamus which looked quite bland in the gross. In many cases of SAE the basal ganglia and thalamus are often involved, probably due to targeting of small vessels. Involvement of the thalamus may also contribute to cognitive dysfunction. (H&E)
