Case 2 History ---- This is a surgical specimen removed from a patient with medically intractable seizures and a poorly characterized perinatal ischemic insult. I have also included this case in the Epilepsy section of the atlas. ---- 2A1 The crests of the gyri of this neurosurgical specimen appear remarkably well preserved but the cortex at the depths of the sulci (arrowheads) is diminished in size. Often the depth of the sulci reach the (subcortical) white matter as shown by later histologic images.
